 | Luis DavidLuis David had been in a fire before we learned about him and his wounds were not yet healed. His mother suffers from mental illness and after an attempt to end her own life, the authorities asked if Luis David could live in Casa de Luz. Of course, we said yes. |
MaicolMaicol's grandmother was trying to raise three grandchildren on her own and could no longer care for Maicol. Unable to walk or speak, Maicol was often found alone by neighbors while the grandmother was out looking for food for her and the boys.

 | RafelinaRafelina was born disabled. When they found her living with her two severely diabetic parents, she slept among rags as her family could not afford much food, and least of all to purchase a mattress. Rafelina is sick often and is unable to sit, even with the intense physical therapy that she receives. She has a swallowing disorder and is difficult to feed her.

TaniaGod healed Tania of a lung condition which prevented her from having a surgery that she desparately needed to save her life. After the lung healing, Tania underwent the surgery and is now a happy and healthy girl of nine who loves school and has learned how to read and write in six months. Tania speaks about becoming a doctor and helping future children in Casa de Luz when she grows up. |  |
 | TiaTia was in an orphanage since birth. When Casa de Luz opened its doors, Tia went on a hunger strike to force the orphanage where she was living at to release her to us so that she could come to live in Casa de Luz with her best friend, Massiel. Tia understands everything spoken to her, though she is unable to form words to speak.

YohanYohan's mother died, and he was taken by a lady who abused him. Neighbors rescued him and fed him from a flood at the home in which he would have surely drowned. Shortly after the neghbors contacted Casa de Luz.

 | Lody Lody is almost 5 years old. She has cerebral palsy from birth. Her single mother brought her to Casa de Luz in February 2009, pleading that we give her daughter a home as she is unable to care for her.

Jose DavidLittle is known about Jose David. Another orphanage where children are healthy and attend school contacted us about giving Jose David a home. While there, he received love from many people, his physical and neurological needs could best be met at a home like Casa de Luz for children with special needs.

 | GregoriaGregoria does have a mother who loves her very much, however, her mother is unable to give her the proper care that she needs due to the extreme poverty that they live under. Her mother came many times from far very away, begging for car fare to visit Casa de Luz with Gregoria hoping for an opening at Casa de Luz for her daughter. Our staff felt compassion for Gregoria and her mother's situation and we agreed to take Gregoria in.

EmilioEmilio's mother died when he was very young and his father was left to care for Emilio and his brothers. For many years Emilio was left alone while his father searched for work to support his sons. They lived on a mountain where the temperature was often very cold, even in the Dominican Republic.
