Volunteerism

Much of Project Child's work is done by volunteers, under the direction of the Directors in the US, and volunteer board members in the Dominican Republic. PC is volunteer-powered.

We have established several ways volunteers can get involved to help with our work. If none of them are a good match for you, please feel free to contact us to explore other possibilities.

Join us on a short-term mission trip: We sponsor around four work groups per year. They usually consist of anywhere from 3 to 40 or more volunteers who travel to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to work for approximately one week to help our caregivers in the orphanage and assist our medical team traveling with us. The children are in desperate need of love and affection.

We will also be needing construction volunteers such as carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters, interior designers,  etc throughtout 2007 and 2008 for the construction of  our new home, Casa de Luz.

Help in St. Petersburg: Currently, volunteers help with fundraising, securing appointments for presentations, collecting donations from local doctors, families and organizations, preparing mailings, etc. We are looking for grant writers and fundraising / event coordinators. We'll try to match your skills and interests with meaningful work. We are also looking for Mission Team Leaders who would be willing to oversee a group of volunteers and take them to the Dominican Republic.

Help in the Dominican Republic: Since we are based in Santo Domingo, we are now starting to volunteer groups from churches and other organizations to use their free time to hold and play with the children, assist in the feeding of the children, painting, construction work, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, etc. We urge these groups to spread the word about work and help us organize volunteer groups on an ongoing basis.
